Roadmapping 101

Roadmapping Process

  • Ideate → Host brainstorming sessions w/ the broader team & meet with individual members to crowdsource ideas.
  • Vote → Get the team to vote on their favorite ideas — making it obvious that voting is just one of many inputs into developing the roadmap
  • Share → When presenting the roadmap, start off with the following:
    • Team’s voting results
    • Any strategic bets
    • Project sequencing

Weekly Roadmap Updates

  • Every Monday you have a team weekly kickoff; it is here where you should provide an update on the current state of the roadmap
  • Monday meeting format
    • Share the doc with the team at the start of the meeting
    • Review the high level doc together as a team, adding any comments at the bottom
    • Review the comments together & engage in any discussion
    • Goal → The team should have absolute clarity as to what’s changed, what’s expected of them, and what direction we’re headed in
  • An update should look as follows
    • Display the roadmap with the status of each project
    • Give a high explanation of the following:
      • What has changed in the past week
      • Top of mind
      • General updates
