Steps to writing a good non-fiction piece:
- Create a chronological outline, in bullets of facts and events
- Create sub-bullets of more facts that are grouped within a large enough event (think: if this were a movie can all these facts stay within the given scene?)
- Also include sub-bullets for any one-off facts you feel can help set the context, background, or add a little color to your story — you’ll use this to write a compelling piece
- Once your outline is in place, Start with your first bullet and work your way down — you’re going to say whether the series of events becomes an “and” “but” or “therefore”
