- Jung references how modern science has had to bend the reliance on true causality since the emergence of the quantum movement. Now, things at a macroscopic scale would need to adhere to chance and statistics.
- If things we infer to still be “causal” are done so under the guise of science, knowing chance is beneath it, we could say that there lies a nonzero value for the instances in which we cannot explain some instance pertaining to the causal conclusion. Said differently, if it’s not 100% accurate, then we can say the small exception to the rule should force us to question whether there is a science for acausality.
- Jung suggests since we can’t observe every instance to identify the moment of acausality, we can approach this by instead asking ourselves what would be inconceivable to deduce a causal relationship from?
- In discussing the cross-section of causality, Arthur Schopenhauer gives a wonderful analogy in “On the Apparent Design in the Fate of the Individual” — that we can picture two parallel lines that are the cross-connection between the meridians.
- Schopenhauer claims there are two types of connections:
- Objective: This is causal and agreed on globally.
- Subjective: This is acausal and only perceived relative to the individual; local.
- Schopenhauer claims that this can be adhered to only if we believe in the prima cause — the initial cause, the transcendental Will. This would imply there is an initial unity that then emanates into multiplicity.
💡 This makes me think about how space and time is actually warped and not straight — done so due to the heavy mass that exists throughout the universe. Could it be that if we adhere to Itzhak Bentov’s work, that the warping of space-time is causing these seemingly disparate lines to cross each other? And is there a deepening factor here that causes them to spiral amongst each other, until this serial cross-connection amplifies and gains meaning?
